I filed the so-called bug in the Tracker. I explained the whole situation and someone told me to use the workflow functionalities offered by Joomla, which I did. I set up a compex step-by-step publication system believing this would solve my issues. This did not solve my original request which is to allow users to view the articles they have submitted, and ONLY THEIR articles (not the others submitted by users from the same group).File a Bug Report in the Tracker.
The Edit.Own should allow the author to see it's own Articles.

It then seems clear that Joomla CANNOT offer this possibility as of today. This definitely clarifies this long thread in which many tried to bring their own two cents, in vain. I contacted the developers of extensions which seemed to be offering more, but they all mentioned their unability to propose this, as their extensions rely on Joomla's native user permissions system.
The thread can then be closed. I'm left waiting for a potential evolution in the publication system one day.
