General Questions/New to Joomla! 4.x • Smart search indexing fails - due to php code in articles?

I migrated a website to J!4 a couple of weeks ago. When I run the smart search indexer it indexes Kunena posts but then I get an error message 'Syntax error: unexpected identifier "php".

I presume this is caused by the fact that the majority of the several hundred articles on the website contain php code added using DirectPHP (or in a few cases, Sourcerer).

Am I correct, and if so, what can be done about it? Is it a question of somehow eliminating all that php code (a huge task) or could Smart Search be changed so that it can work with php in articles?

I've migrated com_finder to the J!4 site and it works well with articles and with Fabrik, but I can't persuade the Kunena developers to get com_finder working on J!4, and since the website has a lot of forum content this is a problem. What's more, J!5 won't support com_finder, so sooner or later I have to get Smart Search working.
